Our History

The Shed was founded by Nowra Uniting Church and we started in a single car garage in Feb 2007, knowing that this could only ever be a temporary home. We then found a suitable place which was half a large farm shed with a very friendly and helpful landlord at Terara.

However, we were faced with the daunting task of raising the rent each month. We moved in November 2008 and we soon obtained enough members and machines to fill that shed to overflowing. We soon began to actively pursue alternatives.

We formed a co-operative partnership with the Shoalhaven Woodcraft Society and together with the Nowra Spinners and Weavers, we negotiated the occupancy of the Caretakers cottage at the Nowra Showground.

Although the new shed is not bigger than the last one, it has much more usable space as the new property includes a house which provides office and amenity space.

We now have our long-awaited brand new shed and occupied it in December 2014. Very reluctantly, circumstances have caused us to cut the official ties to the Uniting Church and to go out on our own.
